In nigeria, gas fires causes lots of diseases because of poisonous gases. gas and oil come together. Now gas is very difficult to be transported to different parts of the world - overseas. Again it can be used internally for cooking, etc. But providing infrastructure in nigeria is very expensive. so the oil companies just burn it off. That is much more easier. producing 70 million tonnes of CO2 annually more than 10 million british homes. The girl says that since people have money, they do whatever they want. Truly poor and ordinary people are always suppressed to prevent the interest of the selected few at the top. Irony but true. That is how the world has been working. People loosing everything that they had in Katrina. There is a lag between increase in temperature and co2 emissions. We are evolutionarily designed to respond to immediate crisis like hunting animal and attacking armies. We cannot deal with long term problems. Everyone agrees to stabilize earth's temperature at 2 deg higher than preindustrial level. Methane coming out of thermafrost in siberia. The man says to stabilize emissions by 2015 and then decrease by 80% in 2050. May be he is a british considering the house and his talks. I do not think it is possible in UK seeing so many shops with their doors open in christmas as if their responsibility is to heat the entire nottingham in winter. The idea has not reached at the basic level itself and people do not understand that it is important to close the main door of the shops when you are heating the shop. GoAir - india - Jay wadia of wadia family. He talks about his young age when he thought why do servant's children do not have anything. He uses a coke tin and bottled water. ha ha ha. he has no clue. He says that everyone is here with a purpose and his purpose is to eradicate poverty. Ha ha ha...What??? Eradicating poverty with cheap planes for all? By using chartered planes and SUVs for personal use? By giving his child every toy he needs before he can even operate? Jay says that hiring a private jet costs as much as lifting a village from below poverty to above poverty. He is associated with a charitable organization and it takes 5 hours by plane and jeep to reach the place. He decided to take train and it took 26 hours. I wonder if he ever took the train which was shown in the video - the one with people standing out of the door. Further, he says that people pay good money and have to put up with this rubbish - ie railway service. Now I wonder if he thinks railway is costly in India. It is not. It is infact the cheapest unless you travel in AC coach in Rajdhani. I guess Jay does not know the cost of general or reserved coaches. May be he has never travelled by them. Rich upbringing and talking big - they go hand in hand in this case. The video says 15 million people travel in train daily in india. His dream is to get them off that train into his jets. Is he stupid? Can a plane take me from Ahmedabad to Mumbai for 300 rs at max - including every thing? Dont think so. Not feasible.
Simple mathematics. Doing optimum calculations to support Jay - Petrol costs 50rs per litre. Car averages 20kmpl. Distance between mumbai and ahmedabad - 545 kms. so one way travel would require 545/20 = 27 litres of petrol = 1350 rs at the least. Now this is excluding the capital investment and loan that I am paying, any maintenance cost, taxes, etc on my car. Actually no car would give 20 kmpl and petrol costs more than 50rs. Take a bike with 70kmpl. So 545/70=7.8 litres = 390 rs. I can get a train ticket cheaper than 390 rs. So even bike is not cheaper. In this respect, can Jay provide a plane ticket cheaper than bike travel? Does he have a plane fuel efficient than a car or a bike? Does he think the servant's kids about whom he felt sorry want to travel in planes and go to work? He was going to a village. Does his flight take him to that village? He is rich and can afford initial losses by giving out cheap tickets - it does not matter. Ultimately he cannot beat the price of railway. Never. Forgetting about finance - does he have any any any kind of knowledge or capacity to think about pollution? I wonder if he reads newspapers at all or is aware of what is happening around. In next sequence, Jay says there are many industries that should be looked into before aviation. (then what are you doing man?). Then he says we all contribute to green house gases and crisis. To make sure our planet is safe and healthy we should use less tissue paper or use paper with trees not cut or buying green cars or by not flying ( not flying - what are you saying - you are pioneering flights for everyone and then how can you say by not flying) (FYI - 99% or more of india's population does not use tissue paper - they use water. I guess he must be using tissues and telling people to uses less issues. Totally out of touch with reality. Stupid) (About buying green cars - he is using energy guzzlers himself, couldnt he buy one prius - i am sure he can afford it) And they he talks about demand and supply. Totally stupid man.
In Nigeria, there is no oil to sell. So petrol pumps are closed or just closed. So black marketing of oil takes place. Lady buys diesel and sells it to rebecca. She makes more profit here than fishing. This is killing production. She is using the crisis and earning money from it - consumerism. This is similar to what big financing agencies do. They do not produce anything but make money by mediating. This is stupid and does not help in long run but these are definitely short cuts to making money. Though not easy for this lady. Another point is that how can there be no oil in nigeria - i mean shell is exporting millions of barrels of oil from here and there is nothing for local people. Total corruption in shell and nigerian govt. It is so stupid to think of the situation. Unfortunately selling oil in US is more profitable to shell and govt than to nigerians.
In UK, local anti-campaigns are the key factors for stopping 80% of the wind farms in UK. Had they been done, 10% of electricity would have been non polluting. There were wind farms earlier as per I remember. How can UK persuade India and China to proceed in a sustainable way when people here are not accepting old wind farming landscape. 9 windturbines for 11000 homes. Plenty of politicians are talking but no one is doing anything. Nothing happens except mass protests and revolts on unprecedented scale. It has been in the past. But no one is doing anything. It is despair. We are tremendously powerful but we do not realize the power. We are infact completely opposite. A picture of man standing against a tank. What a courage.
This is not a golden era of human civilization. Its a point when we are about to loose everything after gaining everything, which means total failure. The man says he was a classic consumer before katrina but then he has changed. Joy is not in the latest gadgets or electric toothbrush.
Estimate the global cap - total usage of fossil fuel that can be used safely. This global cap has to be divided in to countries. Emissions quota starting from 2012 to 2065. Each country has to start with the present state. Every year they have to reduce. US - 90% reduction. Same with Europe and China. But with India and Africa, they would increase till 2025 and all 5 would reach the same standards. Equity is the right morally. Total emissions would keep on reducing gradually. Individual carbon rationing. EG. Everyone in UK would be given annual carbon allowance.

Pierce for wind farm - 6 minutes to convince about wind farm. But committee rejected saying that it would be conspicuous, out of place in bedfordshire landscape. It would decrease enjoyment of nearby footpath and negatively impact nearby listed buildings. It spoil the view. Happy protesters say if you do something fair, you can win. The lady says they understand global warming and they are doing their bit and she is looking for renewable energy and after saying this she starts laughing like a crazy woman - she knows that she has made a mess of her own self.
